I have been reading through the One Year Bible plan this year. Admittedly, this is the fifth year in a row for me and I am hoping this year finds me still dedicated to the discipline past the month of April. Reading through the Bible from beginning to end can be a bit difficult. As we read through genealogies and laws and all of the intricate details God had instructed, do you ever start to skim through it?

I have been trying to stay focused in those moments when I tell myself this is just going on forever. But, why? Why all the details and information? This last week it came to my attention that God has a lot he wants to tell us in all those details. I was reading along in the instructions for building the tabernacle, down to even the thread they used for the garments. What precious care each of the craftsmen took to be sure God would be honored in the place that he dwelled.

How is that relevent today?

Because Jesus came and died for you. Because through your faith you have been given the grace of God. Because God dwells in you. You are his temple.

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Can you see the promise here?

God dwells in you, you are chosen. God commanded Moses to have the tabernacle built with such beautiful expectation before He could dwell there. With new life in Christ, God honors His most beautiful creation by dwelling within each one of us. In Romans 8 we are told that the same spirit that rose Christ Jesus from the dead lives in us. Do you see the promise?

I know we don’t always feel powerful, beautiful or even able to overcome the simplest of struggles in our lives. But, it is through our mustard seed sized faith that He is with you. And not only with you, but choose you to be his sanctuary. We are more precious than all the gold. More beautiful than the fabrics, woods and metals used to build a perfect place for God.
